Question:
I recently acquired an eight gallon butter churn that has all the appearances (decoration wise) to be a Minnesota Mfg’d. churn. When comparing the decoration to my Boysenberry 10 gallon crock and the pictures of stamped Boysenberry crocks in various Red Wing books, I’m guessing the decorator was most likely the same. When comparing the handles and coloration with my 10 gallon, they are similar. I’ve researched the churn in all the stoneware books I have and can’t find any Boysenberry churns. Do you think the churn is a Minnesota Boysenberry? If you need additional pictures, please let me know. Thanks! Larry
Answer: Larry, this is a tough one. It sure looks like the Boysenberries, that I have seen. Like you, I have never seen a Boysenberry churn, let along an 8 gallon to boot. I would really like to see additional photos of your churn to better see the handles, clay and decorations. thanks Al Kohlman
