Question:
I’ve attached pictures of two crocks, a six gallon and two gallon – both in what appears to be an Albany slip glaze with similar markings. The numbers on the side appear to be brushed on or wiped on with a finger. The dimensions are as follows: Six gallon – 14” tall, 1 ¼” rim. At the rim – 12 ½” outside dia, 11” inside dia. Slight taper just below the rim. Purchased in Dyersville, Iowa Two gallon -10” tall, 10” outside dia, 1 1/4” rim. Purchased in Galena, Illinois I only show the bottom of the six gallon, the two gallon is similar. There are no markings other than the “6” and the “2”. Any assistance you could provide to narrow down the possible manufacturers or a time frame would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Nanci
Answer: Nanci, Red Wing did not place the gallon-age on their Albany Slip crocks. Western Stoneware did as well as Ohio. My best guess from where they were purchased would be Western. Al Kohlman
