Question:
Hey Al,sorry about the previous e-mail I hit enter before done -anyway i have this 3 gal. jug with what appears to be a lazy 8 design but it is a molded jug not sure if redwing or not -it also has a letter H scribed in the back – Hallum? If you think it’s redwing -Value? I have also sent you a pic of another jug which is not redwing but would like to identify the maker if possible looks like a maxfield flower -i have 3 pieces with this flower on -any ideas? or who might? Thanks – Don
Answer: Don, your 3 gallon molded salt glaze jug with the lazy 8 target mark is not Red Wing. I do not know of a Red Wing jug which has the H incised in the back of the jug. There are a number of these pieces around and I believe they are either Western or Ohio. The 4 gallon ovoid jug is Ohio. The flower is close to those seen on Maxfield and Baker (Milwaukee, WI) pieces. However, the flower is definitely Ohio. Do not know the value of the 3 gallon molded, but have seen these Ohio ovoids sell in the range of $250 to $300. Al Kohlman
