Question:
Hi Al, Have a couple question about crock lids. You have the button, bar and bail handled lids. Can you tell me which years each kind was made, or did they overlap years? Or did it depend on size fo lid? Also would you know what sizes would’ve had which handles. I have a 1-40 gallon crocks and will be working on the lids for them next. Any heip is greatly appreciated. Thanks For Your Time, Darrell
Answer: Darrel, the button lids are the earliest and they started in the zinc glazed era 1895 or so to around 1915. 1915 to 1916 is when the bar and bail handled lids went into production. You can find button lids in sizes from 1 to 60 gallon. The bar handle lids are most common from 1 to 10 gallons, but have found them in 12 gallons as well. The bail handle lids can be found from 12 to 60 gallons. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
