Question:
I have an old stonewear 5 gallon crock that has a small hairline crack. What is the best way to make this crock water tight again? I would prefer this solution to be of food grade. Thanks, Ira Trumble

Answer: Ira, I have always used liquid super glue and a tourniquet to tighten up and seal a hairline or crack. However, I don’t know if this is food safe, so I don’t recommend it. I think the safest way is to wrap a wire around the crock just under the rim and twisting it as tight as possible. Hopefully you can pull the crack together tight enough to prevent leakage. Other than this, I have nothing else I can recommend to be food safe. Al Kohlman
