Question:
Dear Al, I want to thank you for your expertise and help. I happened across a 6 Gal redwing crock and would appreciate any information you might have on it including probable value. It’s measurements are:15" Tall, Inside dia: 10 1/2", Outside dia:12 1/2". It does have a hairline crack about 3 inches long beginning at the lip and running down. I’m not sure on the other one, it is not marked and is just shy of holding 2 Gal, I was told it could be a redwing wax sealer, but it is almost a gallon larger than any I’ve seen or heard of. The measurements are:10 1/2" Tall, Lip dia: 4 5/8", Base dia: 8 3/4". Thank you again for your skillful knowledge, Eric.

Answer: Eric, happy to help. I seen the photos you send to the Red Wing Society. Your 6 gallon Red Wing crock with the hairline crack will have a low value. It has the small red wing and was produced between 1936 & 1947. 5 & 6 gallon crocks were produced in very large quantities as these were the perfect size for canning in the home. Therefore they are still quite easy to find. Value with this hairline would be between $35 & $40. The other crock which which is a wax sealer will have even a lower value. It looks to be a Minnesota Stoneware wax sealer in about the 1/2 gallon size. Signed wax sealers of this size book between $40 & $60 in mint condition. This is because the piece is not signed by a maker or decorated (what collectors look for). Value $10 to $20. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
