Question:
Thanks Al! I have three pieces of stoneware for you to look at. The first one is a really nice 5 gallon salt glazed jug with some great turkey droppings. No cracks, a couple chips on the mouth that are under the glaze. Do you think it is Red Wing? What do you think it is worth? Thanks!

Answer: The first photo of your 5 gallon salt glaze beehive looks to be a little distorted. However, the second photo looks Red Wing as does the back of the handle and the markings. Therefore I believe your beehive jug is Red Wing. The lazy eight target markings are quite common and was used by a number of stoneware companies throughout the mid-west. This of course brings the value down compared to the salt glaze leaf and rib cage beehives. Then of course the turkey drippings look great and are very appealing to us salt glaze collectors (and up goes the value "somewhat"). Value on your jug would be in the range of $500 to $1000 all depending on a right collector. Al Kohlman
