Question:
I would like info on a crock I have diameter is apox 24" and stands about 30" high. It has a crack down the back that splits and goes around but not all the way. It has a crown with a 50 in the center. Can you tell me what it’s worth, and how I could fix the crack properly Also there is no drain hole in the bottom.

Answer: You have a 50 gallon crown pottery crock which was known as National Pottery. National Pottery Company operated in Roseville,Ohio, likely circa 1900-1925 or so. They went out of business in 2005. I don’t have any idea on value as I do not know of any crown collectors. The best way I know to secure a crack is with liquid Super Glue. Get as much of the Liquid (do not use gel or it will not get in the crack) super glue in the crack as possible. Next use about 3 tourniquets to pull the crack together. Leave the tourniquets on the crock for 24 hours. After removing the tourniquets, take a single edge razor blade and remove the excess super glue that is on the outside of the crack. Note: Do not wipe of any excess super glue while wet. It will leave white markings which are extremely difficult to remove. Good luck. Al Kohlman
