Question:
This 50 gal crock was used to cure meat in a No Dak farm house before REA. It has no cracks or chips. We want to sell it. What is the approx value and how should it be sold to insure maximum return? Delivering the crock to Red Wing, to a sale or dealer, is not a problem for us.
Answer: Your 50 gallon crock with birch leaves in blue ink is a nice piece. If it were mint, with no stains cracks, chips or hairlines, in today’s market you would be looking at $2000 to $2500 . All of the markings are nice and dark and looked to be fairly close to being fully printed. As I see the crock now, I would place the value around $1000. The stains look to be rust and this is a major concern as rust has a tendency to get deep into the pores of the crock and can be very difficult or next to impossible to remove. Hope this helps.
