Question:
IHave a pitcher that is white I think it looks whit any way it has a blue indian head with head dress, tepees, trees and a blue handle with a indian head at the top of it. It has a number 30S with a line under the S. It is 13 inchs at the back and 15 inches at the spout. 8 inches across the top and 11 1/2 across the bottom. I would like to know if this is Red Wing Pottery and if it is when it was made.
Answer: Your pitcher is Sleepy Eye and was manufactured by the Weir Company (Western Stoneware). They began producing Sleepy Eye in 1903 and production went on in different variations until 1973. Also, there are quite a few reproductions of Sleepy Eye out there, so one must be careful. There is also a Sleepy Eye collectors Society which you might want to look up for further information on your pitcher. Al Kohlman
