Question:
STONEWARE QUESTION: hello, I have a 2 gal salt-glazed crock (a ’2′ over what I have heard described as a double p design) that has "Minnesota Stoneware Co Redwing" in a circle on the bottom. I am familar with the history of the different companies and their time periods (I believe MN Stoneware existed 188?- 1906?)my question is: Although I have seen this and similar crocks (on ebay) I have never seen one with this marking on the bottom, they’ve all been smooth with no information- does that change, or what is, the value of this crock? to the best of your knowledge… unfortunately I don’t have a photo… thanks a lot!
Answer: A number of the Minnesota Stoneware 2 gallon salt glaze crocks were embossed on the bottom with the Minnesota Stoneware Company name. These are called bottom signed and and carry a greater value then those crocks not signed. Value for a bottom signed 2 gallon double P in mint condition will be $175 to $250 depending on how well and dark the decoration and clear the bottom signature. Al Kohlman
