Question:
I came across an 8-gallon crock w/ rusty metal handles. It has a glazed design over the original markings of Thanksgiving-looking design. The outside glazed has been chipped away to reveal gray pottery underneath and a big number 8 in blue print. There is also the words near the top rim that show through the outer glaze that say Patented in 1916. What kind of pottery is this and what is the value?

Answer: Sounds like you have a Red Wing 8 gallon crock. You can remove the paint with paint striper and it will not hurt the glaze. In mint condition and depending on how large the wing, you could be looking at a value between $150 & $200. Al Kohlman
