Question:
I’m looking for a value on a Red Wing bowl. The # on the bottom is kind of hard to make out, I think 1126. The wing says Red Wing, hand painted with USA printed below the wing. All the printing on the bottom looks purple. The bowl is nearly triangular with a lip on one of the points. There are a couple of small chips on that lip. The painting includes a swallow, fruit, & some grasses. About 9 inches in diameter. Thank you.

Answer: The name of this pattern is Capistrano, one of six patterns in the Anniversary line introduced in 1953. The 1126 number on the bottom is merely a lot or batch number; it does not identify the item. This piece is a nappy or vegetable bowl. In mint condition a Capistrano nappy would be worth $25-30. The chips will reduce the value significantly, probably by 50% or so depending the size and visibility. Many collectors will not consider purchasing a piece that has damage.
