Question:
I bought a setting of 12 of the Magnolia pattern at an estate auction. One of the bread plates was cracked and eventually broke. Where can I get a replacement for it? The few that I have seen on e-bay look like imposters. Thank you for your time. Patty

Answer:
The Magnolia dinnerware you saw on eBay are not likely to be imposters. There is an ample supply of genuine Red Wing Magnolia dinnerware. It would not be worthwhile for a scam artist to recreate Magnolia dinnerware to be passed off as original.

The Magnolia pattern was made for about 10 years. Over that time many different painters applied the brush strokes for the Magnolia decoration. The clay and glaze colors varied a bit batch to batch. A plate decorated in 1947 would probably not be an exact match the same plate decorated in 1955.

If you want to be sure you are buying a replacement that is a good match for your collection, you’ll probably want to inspect the piece personally rather than view a photo. Antique stores and garage sales would provide for that. But a Magnolia bread plate is a rather inexpensive piece. You could buy several on eBay for only a few dollars apiece and keep the one you like best.
