Question:
I have a complete 12 place setting of Brittany dinnerware. It includes the candleholders and water pitcher and covered casserole dishes, chop plates, cream and sugar and cups and saucers. Can you tell me the approximate value of this set as I have not had much luck trying to locate a gravy boat that may belong to this set. Thank you Connie
Answer: The Brittany gravy boat is difficult to find because it was added late in the production life of the pattern. Thus it was made for only a year or two, while most Brittany pieces were made for 10 years.
An accurate estimate of your collection is not possible without a listing of all pieces that are included AND their condition. A place setting could include up to three sizes of plates and up to three different bowls, as well as a cup & saucer. In addition to the nice pieces you’ve stated, other pieces not mentioned are the cream soup bowls, buffet bowl, teapot, nappy, and salt & pepper shakers. Depending on condition, the set as described could be worth less than $100 or as much as $400-500.
