Question:
We recently purchased a teapot at a garage sell. I collect tea cups and saw this teapot and purchased it. I have seen it on your site it is the Orleans teapot it has the cover and is in pretty good shape. Just wondering what your estimated value of this is. I read an earlier answer that said it is one of the more valuable pieces. Thank you.
Answer: Teapots tend to be among the more valuable pieces in a dinnerware set because comparatively few of them were made and because collectors like them. Orleans is no exception, but the teapot’s condition is very important in determining value.
An Orleans teapot and cover in excellent condition would be worth in the range of $75 to $100, and a bit more for an example in pristine condition. But while I’ve seen many Orleans teapots over the years, I’ve seen very few in excellent condition. Chips, cracks, hairlines and stains are very common with Orleans teapots and they reduce the value significantly. An teapot in good condition (a couple of nicks and light staining) would be worth $40 to $60; chips, cracks and hairlines will bring the value down to the $20 to $30 range.
