Question:
We have a platter that is somewhat shaped like an artist’s palette. Approx. 17-18 inches long and 12 inches wide from the left and tapers down to approx. 9 inches on the right. The piece depicts a bird-like figure, pear, plum, grapes with one stem of grass and other other assorted grass(?) shapes. The background is all off-white and appears to have a small checkered pattern running through it. The number stamped on the back is 149

Answer: The name of your pattern is Capistrano. Platters were made in two sizes and yours in the larger one. Capistrano was introduced in 1953 and was made into the early 1960s. Value for this platter would be $30 to $40 in excellent condition.
