Question:
I inherited numerous pieces of Town and Country from my mother and am trying to establish some estimate of value. Place settings are grey, most serving pieces are forest green. Have 9 dinner plates, 8 bread and butter, 6 fruit bowls, 8 cups and saucers (4 extra saucers), large platter, low vegetable bowl, higher round vegetable bowl, creamer and 2 sugers (1 lid missing), salt and pepper, syrup, 2 pint pitcher. Can you help me? Thanks!
Answer: Town & Country is the only Red Wing dinnerware pattern designed by Eva Zeisel, a well-known designer with a large following of collectors. Thus the value of T&C dinnerware is higher than most Red Wing patterns because it appeals to both Red Wing and Zeisel collectors. Town & Country was produced for 10 years, from 1947 to 1956. Your gray and forest green items are among the standard T & C colors. Metallic Brown is the most popular and valuable standard color. White T&C items were made briefly early in production and are considered rare. in the early 1950s some T&C shapes were glazed in four colors borrowed from Quartette, another Red Wing pattern. While not as rare as white, Quartette-colored T&C items are difficult to find and have more value than standard colors.
From your description I can’t be certain about the identity of several of your items. Below are approximate values for the T&C items that best match your descriptions. All values assume excellent condition (no chips, flakes, cracks or hairlines) and are for standard T&C colors with a consistent, even glaze with no significant glaze skips.
Dinner plate (12"): $25-40
Bread & Butter plate (6.5"): $15-20
Sauce or Relish dish (7" x 5"): $15-20 (Fruit bowl??)

Large platter (15" x 11.5"): $40-60
Soup bowl (7"): $25-35 (Low vegetable bowl??)
Salad bowls (6" or 8.5"): $25-50 (Higher round vegetable bowl??)
Creamer: $20-25
Sugar with cover: $20-25
Salt & Pepper: $75-125
