Question:
My last piece with question right now. This on is just marked RED WING U.S.A. on the base in raised letters. It is a bowl measuring 9 1/2" across x 4" high. The color is eggshell with brown speckling overall. It is finished in a hi gloss glaze. This one has 2 small hairlines going from the top edge down almost directly across from each other less than 1" long. I find no chips. Overall looks nice and clean. Thanks, Sherry

Answer: You have the chip bowl from a Red Wing chip & dip set. A two-pronged metal bracket slides over the rim and down the sides of the chip bowl. The bracket then holds a smaller dip bowl above the chips.

Except for the size your chip bowl is very similar to the commonly found 12" salad bowl. While this chip & dip set does not belong to a specific dinnerware pattern, the bowls are in the Casual shape. This and other "orphan" pieces in the beige fleck color would go well with Bob White or other Red Wing patterns with beige fleck as the background glaze.

This chip & dip set was made in the late 1950s or early 1960s and complete sets are not easy to find these days. The value for a complete set in excellent condition would be around $50 to $60. The value for the chip bowl by itself would be much less, perhaps $10 to $15 in excellent condition. With two hairlines the value is closer to $5.
