Question:
My mother had a mulberry wing ashtray that has no numbers on it. It is 7 1/2" long. It is very graceful, the widest part being 3 3/4" and the lower curve of the wing 2". I have seen photos of others that appear to be fatter with a less elegant curve to the wing. It has Red Wing Pottery arched on the base USA in the center and Red Wing Minnesota curved below. The feathers are beautifully molded. When did they begin making the wing ashtrays and could this be a trial piece since it has no numbers? Thank you! Barbara
Answer: Hi Barbara
the "wing" ashtrays were designed in 1953. I don’t think any had a design number. They came in 4 different colors, and sell for around 50.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
