Question:
Is this a Red Wing item, and if so can you tell me when it was made, how rare it is, and a range of possible value? The height is fifteen inches and diameter is twelve inches. The condition is very good, with no chips. It was bought at a North Carolina auction and represented as being from a well-known old resort hotel in Pinehurst. Also, if it is a sand jar, how did that name originate?

Answer: It could be Red Wing, it’s real hard to say for sure, unless they are marked. RRP out of Ohio did the same mold, and similar brushware glaze. It is a lobby/sand jar. They were used in larger establishments for ashtrays, being filled with sand, hence "sand jar". If it’s marked the value is around 500.00 or so, not marked around 250-275 range. thanks, steve n rose
