Question:
I recently came upon this vase, a #251, and have some questions about its authenticity. According to the 1931 catalog that I have, this vase was made in two colors: yellow and light green. The color of this vase is described as: "The color of this vase is an aqua blue with green highlights throughout. The highlights, is one looks closely, are the green that is usually associated with Red Wing’s Art Ware line, but the overall tone is aqua. It’s a little darker in person than it appears on my monitor. The highlights have a bit more contrast. It’s has more "life" in person and doesn’t appear washed out like it may on some of your monitors." They have also measured the vase and say it is 9-3/4\" high, where the information I have says that this vase is 10" tall. I’d really appreciate your valued insight on this piece – do you think it is authentic? I don’t have much time to decide on this purchase, so a prompty reply would be greatly appreciate. Thanks, in advance, for your timely response!!!
Answer: Your picture did not come thru for us, but what you are looking at is most likely authentic. Red Wing made a large number of their artware items over several years and often changed the glazing, I have seen this vase in turquoise. As for the size, in pottery a 1/4" variance is not uncommon. Each piece of pottery shrinks differently thur the processes.
