Question:
I have a Red Wing 5 gallon Beehive Birch leaf jug, there is a hole in the back of the jug that I think is a factory mishap,I was told by someone that it is where the clay did not come together, would like to get your opinion, thank you. (Woody)

Answer: Woody, it is hard to say where or how the hole in you 5 gallon beehive happened. I could have been an air bubble in the clay or just a very thin area in the wall of the jug that when handled could have chipped out. I can tell by the grooves in the clay that your beehive was hand turned. Being hand turned there was no way to assure and even thickness of the clay as the piece was being turned on the wheel. I guess this about the best that I can tell you. Al Kohlman
