Question:
What is the value of a pre 1915 5 gallon red wing crock with large wing, Prominent Red Wing 5 in blue, no handles, "Red Wing Union Stoneware, Red Wing Minn", in oval. I believe I have seen one exactly like this on antiques roadshow appraise for a high amount. I would just like a little more info and to know which of the 5 gallon crocks is the rarest and highest price. Thank you. Jacob

Answer: Jacob, the best 5 gallon Red Wing crock would be one with a 6 inch wing, large ski oval and no handles. However, this crock would need to be perfect (no chips, cracks hairlines, stains, etc). Next all the stencilling would need to be perfect (no smears or not fully printed). Also, the stencilling would need to be prefectly balanced on the front of the crock and all the decorations would need to be nice and dark. Now you have a $150 five gallon. Take away any of the above the value starts to drop. Al Kohlman
