Question:
Hi – I have 2 Red Wing spongeware bowls. The first is a 9" panel bowl, the only marking is the number 9 on the bottom. The second is a a 7c. ribbed bowl. On the bottom it says Red Wing Oven Ware and 7c. Both are in good condition, each has only a single small chip. Any info would be appreciated and currect value. thanks- Cindy
Answer: Cindy, both your 9 inch Red Wing panel & your smaller cap bowl were made in the 1920′s and early 30′s. Bowls, unlike the larger stoneware pieces are looked at by collectors the same way collectors of glassware look at their pieces. They are looking for perfect. Any chips and the values just bomb. On the 9 inch panel bowl $30 to $40 with a small chip. The cap bowl, $20 to $25. With the large number of these bowls produced, collectors can afford to be choosy and they are. Wish I had better news for you. Al Kohlman
