Question:
I heard that the two birch leaf design was made prior to 1909 by Red Wing and these were made for Sears. I have a 4 gal. crock that has the number 4 with a line with 2 leafs that hang down from this line. There is no oval and has handles on the sides. I think these are called elephant ear handles. Am I correct on my answer? What is the value of this crock? Thank you. Tom

Answer: Tom, your 4 gallon crock decoration is called Elephant Ears. The handles are called molded handles. Those crocks with birch-leaves and elephant ears that have no oval are believed to have been made for Sears & Roebuck. When it comes to Elephant ears, most collectors prefer those that have the oval. With this being said, these crocks with no valves have a lower value than those that do. Value on yours if in perfect condition is around $75. Al Kohlman
