Question:
I just purchased this #3 Minnesota stoneware oval, bottom marked, and very blue piece. The other outstanding feature is that one of the workers scribed some multiplication problem in the wet clay, which was glazed over. I was wondering what this might be worth, since the Minnesota oval is uncommon. The crock is in perfect condition, and the numbers scribed on do photograph. I hope its worth more than I paid for it….. Thanks Craig
Answer: Craig, your 3 gallon Elephant Ear crock with Minnesota oval is quite striking with the dark blue ink. The Minnesota oval pieces of this size use to bring a $1200 to $1500 in black ink. But today that value as dropped a bit. With your blue ink, the nice dark and clear stamp, I would keep it in the same ball park as the past years. $1200 to $1500. Very nice piece. Hope you didn’t get burnt. Al Kohlman
