We have a redwing crock selling at public auction on August 29, 2010 in Baker, Montana . I have been doing auctions a long time and have never run into a crock such as this. It does have a crack in the lid and a few chips around the outside but nothing major. Just curious about this piece and what its purpose was. If its something collectors would like. Answer: JK, your have a Red Wing ball locking jar (apples sauce jar). These jars came in 5, 3 & 2 gallon sizes and are more common than you would think. If it were in perfect condition, they sell for around $225. With the cracked lid and chips, the value would drop to $50 to $90. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
