I have two brown top jugs both in good condition, the 1/2 gallon has a couple of small chip, the 1 gallon I believe is mint. They are not marked but I believe them to be red wing, value and rarity? thanks

Answer: Kansas advertising jugs are somewhat hard to find, but I have seen a few of the Prell Mercantile jugs around. Also, both of your jugs are Red Wing. Now the bad news. Just today, two Kansas advertising jugs were taken off of Ebay because someone had placed or stenciled a fake advertising on the jugs and then sprayed a finished over the top of the advertising to make the advertising look like it was glazed over. We hate to see this begin to happen, so expect the collectors to begin pulling our there pocket knives and start scraping these advertising pieces to be sure they are authentic. Value on your jugs. 1/2 gallon $375 to $425, 1 gallon $350 to $400. I think there is a 25 gallon crock on Craigslist in the Madison Wisconsin area with the Prell Mercantile Kansas advertising on it now. The person wants $1200 for it if your are interested in it.
