Question:
I have a 4 gallon crock that was my grandmothers and she had it for a long time. I was wondering if you could tell me if it is a Red Wing as I was told it probably was. It is a salt glaze and has a dark cobalt blue design on it that I haven’t seen on any other crock. The crock has a couple of very fine hairlines on the front and also some fine crazing all over. If it is what might it be worth? Thank you
Answer: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your crock is not Red Wing, nor is it a salt glazed piece. Your crock would be listed as a transition. This is where the crock is a zinc glazed piece and cobalt decorated. I have no idea who the manufacturer is. Value would be in the range of $50 to $100. Al Kohlman
