Question:
hi i have a 10 gallon crock with the lid overall in very nice condition with if i measured it right a 6" wing i was wondering the approximate value and also if you would just what is the little jar on the right it has no markings any help is appreciated thanks
Answer: Your ten gallon Red Wing crock without the lid, would have a value in the area of $150. The lid is also Red Wing. However, your lid is considered a zinc glazed lid and not a salt glazed lid. This lid was made just after the salt glaze was discontinue and was put at the top of the lids being fired. The salt residue which was still in the kiln after the salt glaze days generated a film during the firing process which coated the top of your lid with a salt glaze color. These lids will demand a lower price than the creamy white ones. Value on your lid in mint condition would be $50 to $100. The little jar to the right of your 10 gallon Red Wing crock is a packing jar, which was used for canning everything from pickles, applesauce, to sauerkraut. Al Kohlman
