Question:
Hi there! I have 3 Red Wing crocks. I know they are Red Wing they all have the logo stamped on them. I have a 30gal and 2, 15gallons. The 30 has a hairline crack about a foot long on the side(not going through any stamps or writing)and a patent 1915 on it. One of the 15gal is also 1915 same Red Wing on the front and same year..1915. these both have handles. the 15 has no cracks. The OTHER 15 has no date but does have the Red Wing union stoneware co stamp. Instead of the red wing it has blue leaves on it..this one is in mint cond no cracks/chips at all and no handles.

I was wondering if you could tell me about these and maybe a rough estimate of when the one with no date may have been made?? I dont think there could have been a date because everything else is perfect so I would be able to see even if it was worn off. They have been in my family a long time im not looking for prices to sell them or anything, I’m keeping them in the family, just curious is all! Thank you for your time! Thanks Jen

Answer: Jen, I always love to hear that someone is keeping their family keepsakes (especially Red Wing). The two Red Wing crocks with the Dec. 21st 1915 dates were applied as a patent for the type of handles use by the Red Wing Stoneware Company. With this date, we know the crocks were manufactured after 1915. Red Wing quit manufacturing stoneware crocks in 1947. The 15 gallon Red Wing crock with birch leaves and no handles was most likely manufactured between 1895 & 1909. In 1909 Red Wing Stoneware Company began applying the Red Wings instead of the Birch Leaves. Hope this answers your questions. Al Kohlman
