Question:
This jug was my mother’s and is in very good condition. It has only one chip – on the inside of the top. It is beige with a hen on the front. The base (which I guess is to hold a candle?) has little chicks around it. The chicks and hen are brown with light blue accents. It is about 16 inches tall, with all 3 pieces, as shown in the attached picture. Helen

Answer: You have a water cooler from the Bob White dinnerware pattern with stand. Two very different styles of Bob White water cooler stands were made. The stand is used to raise the cooler high enough to fit a cup under the spigot. Your stand is a Village Green warming stand decorated in Bob White colors. While this stand was originally designed to hold a warming candle, that was not the intent with the Bob White stand. Eventually a second style was introduced. It looks like a large salad bowl with the Bob White decoration applied upside-down. The "bowl" is placed open end down so the decoration displays correctly and the cooler is set on flat "bottom" of the upside down bowl.

A complete Bob White water cooler with cover, spigot and stand in excellent condition would be worth around $350-400. The chip will reduce the value significantly, probably by 25 to 75% depending on the size and and visibility of the chip.
