Question:
I have 7 dinner plates 10" across that my paents bought in Red Wing during WW2. They have no glaze is what I was told and we used them not ownly to eat off but my best memory was drying died Easter Eggs on the, Back ground is ivory, rim is ivory, wide yellow band, ivory and then blue. Design is yellow and blue flowers with green leaves and brown outline. Name of pattern etc desired. Kris
Answer: The WWII production period and your description of the design and colors indicate your plates are from the Brittany dinnerware pattern. Brittany was one of four patterns in the Provincial shape. All four patterns were introduced in 1941; Brittany production ceased in 1950. It is very unlikely that you have seven dinner plates that were not glazed as that would be considered a major production flaw. Such plates would no doubt be discarded to the pottery dump and not offered for sale. Value for a standard Brittany dinner plate in excellent condition is around $15.
