Question:
I have a serving dish that I have had for quite some time. It appears to be in perfect condition. Bottom reads RED WING USA. Could you tell me it’s value? Thank you for your time and assistance! Tera

Answer: Most Red Wing brochures listed this piece as a nut bowl, while others called it a relish dish. This 5-section dish was introduced in 1956 as an art pottery item. Initially these pieces were bottom marked "446" along with the Red Wing USA mark. The dish was produced in a number of art pottery colors including matte white, fleck pink, fleck yellow, fleck green, fleck blue, cinnamon, black, and green.

At some point in the late 1950s the ever-popular beige fleck glaze was added. In 1958 beige fleck nut bowls decorated with Bob White and Tampico artwork were added to those two dinnerware patterns. By 1960 the nut bowl was dropped from the art pottery catalog leaving beige fleck, Bob White and Tampico as the three remaining options.

The great majority of these bowls found today are the beige fleck color. These are very common and worth around $15 in excellent condition. Tampico and Bob White nut bowls are fairly difficult to find and are worth $50-75. Nut bowls in the art pottery colors are not common from what I’ve seen, but they don’t seem to attract much interest either. Values for them are in the $15 to $25 range.
