Question:
I have four oval plates that I got from a lady that told me she got them for a wedding present over 50 years ago and has never used them. I cannot find them anywhere on the internet, including on redwingdinnerware.com. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about them. They are in excellent condition. They do have Red Wing USA on the back. I have attached a picture. Thank you Sheila

Answer:
The reason you’ve had difficulty finding information about your platters because they don’t fit neatly into either the dinnerware or art pottery categories. Beginning in the late 1950s Red Wing glazed a number of items from various dinnerware lines with their popular beige fleck glaze. These beige fleck pieces were sold as gift or novelty items and are not part of a specific dinnerware pattern. They go nicely with the numerous patterns that feature the beige fleck glaze, but with their neutral color they could be used with nearly anything.

The mold for your platter was borrowed from the Village Green shape, so essentially you have a Village Green platter in the beige fleck glaze. They are quite common. Value would be around $15-20 each in excellent condition.
