Question:
I bought this pitcher at a garage sale and it matches the pattern Desert Fancy Free. Stamped Red Wing 242, I am enclosing a picture. Thank You Paulette

Answer:  Paulette, you have a Desert water pitcher. Desert and Caprice were the two patterns made in the Fancy Free shape. These patterns were introduced in 1952 and were made for only a brief period, thus they are rather scarce today. Desert is very popular with collectors of Western items. This pitcher apparently had a structural weakness as most examples I’ve seen have a crack or hairline across the base. In excellent condition (no cracks, chips, hairlines, etc) a Desert water pitcher would be worth in the range of $60-$90.
