Question:
I purchased a piece of Red Wing art pottery for my mother when I was 10. I am now 50, so I know it is at least 40 years old. I have no idea how old this piece was when I purchased it. The blue stamp on the bottom says Red Wing Art Pottery and has the number 164 stamped in the bottom. I believe it is a vase, not a planter. The earthtones at the top blend into a blue-green at the bottom with two lions walking. It is approx. 8" tall with a 3 1/2" opening. At the roundest point, it is 6-8" in diameter. Thank you Tyna
Answer: Tyna, it’s just a wee bit older than 40, it dates to the late twenties/early thirties. Called the "lion" vase, it came in two sizes, yours being the smaller. Combination Green and Tan is the glaze. A nice piece of early Red Wing art pottery. Value is around $150-$175. thanks, steve n rose
