20 Gallon Squat Crock and Lid

Question:

I have this large crock and lid at my work. Can you tell me it’s value?

Answer:

This is a squat Red Wing 20 gallon crock with 6 inch wing and handles. If in perfect condition it is valued between $600 & $650 for just the crock.  If the lid is in perfect condition and is a Red Wing lid and creamy white, it has a value in the area of $300.  It is a very nice piece.  Al Kohlman

5 gallon Red Wing rib cage crock and leaf churn

Question

Hi.  I recently acquired the 5 gallon back signed Red Wing Stoneware Company Churn.  There are two spots with flaking.  Inside the top rim and at the base near the signed portion of the churn.  The 5 gallon crock is not signed.  Neither the crock nor the churn have any hairline cracks.  Both are in fantastic condition for their age.  I was curious as to what the experts had to think about my red wing pieces including value of each.  I appreciate your help.  Thanks, Lanny

Answer

Lanny, the 5 gallon Red Wing rib cage crock, as a value around $250.  The signed Red Wing leaf churn in prefect condition today is between $3500 & $3800.  Al Kohlman

20 gallon double flower Red Wing salt glazed crock

Question

I’ve had this 20 gal. double flower for quite some time.

I’d like some information on it.

Thank you.

Larry

Answer

Larry, you have quite the rare piece here.  I sounds like your 20 gallon double flower Red Wing salt glazed crock is not side stamped.  It is an early piece of Red Wing made sometime between 1877 & 1895.  If in perfect condition and not stamped Red Wing, it could bring between $10,000 & $15,000.   If it is stamped Red Wing on the side or back the value would be higher.  Al Kohlman

Watkins Extract Advertising Jug

Question:

My father passed away 3 years ago and sitting on his cellar stairs were two jugs.  One is labeled Watkins Extracts.  I tried to get a little info online and Google brought up Red Wing advertising jugs.  I do not personally collect stoneware, but wondered if this specific jug is considered collectible.  The other jug is unmarked but I included photos of that one as well.  Any information you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. The Watkins jug measures about 11″ tall by 22″ around. The other jug measures about 9.5″ tall by 20″ around. It has a shiny glaze and orange peel kind of texture.

Thank you so very much for your time.

Donna M.

Answer:

Donna, the Watkins Extracts brown top advertisingg jug is Red Wing.  It is a very common advertising piece that after the economic meltdown from 2008, it no longer holds the value it once did.  Today in perfect condition $250 is about where  I would put it at.  The salt glazed jug is not Red Wing and I just have no idea of it’s value.  Al Kohlman

Red Wing Sewer Pipe Sample

Question

Hello,

I have a Red Wing Sewer Pipe sample which doesn’t have a bottom like I’ve seen.  It’s about 3″ by 2-1/2″.  On one side it reads:  “Compliments Red Wing Sewer Pipe Co Red Wing, MN.”  On the other side it reads:  “Our pipe has the most Vitrified Body, Best Glazed, Truer to circle and is and is much stronger than any pipe made”

Could you help with age, value and what it was supposed to be used for.  Thank You Very Much!

Tom

Answer

Tom, you have the rarer Red Wing sewer pipe sample.  The Red Wing Sewer pipe Co was in business from1901 to the 1970′s.  Value on your sewer pipe sample is between $200 & $250.  Al Kohlman

3 gallon Winnipeg advertising jug

Question

Just wondering if these jugs are red wing or not? I have had them for a few years. If I was to sell them, what should I ask? Thank-you William

Answer

William, the 3 gallon Winnipeg jug is Red Wing.  In perfect condition, $300 to $400.  Now the Albany slip cone top jug I cannot read and I am not sure if it is Red Wing.  Could you send me a photo from the side and also the back of the handle where the handle attaches to the base.  I can better help after viewing those photos.  Al Kohlman

2 gallon Red Wing Churn, spider crack

Question:

Hello,

I have searched your website and learned a lot about the different stoneware and the history.  It’s been a journey.

I have a friend who has had a stroke and is asking me to help her liquidate her treasures.  I have attached photos of her 2 Gallon Redwing Churn that has a 4” Redwing with the Union stamp.  There are a couple of what I hope are the crazing cracks?  one outside and one inside.  There is no lid with this.  I could not find a churn close enough to this one to assign a sale value. Thank you and keep up the great public service you all provide.

Laurie

Answer:

Laurie, your Red Wing butter churn with the large spider crack in the side would have a value in the area of $50 to $75.   Collectors are looking for perfect pieces and with the spider and the spider in the front, the value just falls when there are a number of prefect 2 gallon churns out there for sale that are perfect.   Still a cute churn.  Al Kohlman
